The Association of Australian Football Clubs is both pleased and disappointed with the outcome of today’s annual general meeting of Football Federation Australia.
We appreciate the FFA Congress agreeing to the recommendation to give us status of Qualifying Member in accordance with the Constitution. However, we are both perplexed and disappointed that the Congress did not adopt the recommendation of the Congress Review Working Group that the AAFC qualification commence in July 2017 and to pass the subsequent Constitutional changes related to the Qualifying Member status. Whilst the special resolution was supported by the majority of the Congress it did not receive the 75% required to pass. This was due primarily to Northern NSW, Queensland, Northern Territory, Capital Football and Tasmania not supporting the special resolution as well as an other, unknown party. Nonetheless, today's vote represents a historic recognition of the AAFC and its clubs as we now have a voice on the Congress for the first time. AAFC also congratulates Joseph Carrozzi, Chris Nikou, Remo Nogarotto and Heather Reid on their election to the FFA Board and looks forward to working with them to help them advance football in the interests of everyone in the football community.
